Eventually Manchester City will have to move on without Bernardo Silva and his magic
Yukihito Taguchi-USA TODAY Sports

It is a thought that no one connected with Manchester City wants to contemplate, but eventually, the world champions will have to move on without Bernardo Silva. City’s star midfielder has again reiterated his desire to finish his career at Benfica in an interview on Portuguese television.

Speaking on the SIC Especial Show Bernardo Silva again spoke his desire to eventually return to Benfica. City’s Portuguese playmaker said: “Is it a long time before I return? I think people are a little tired of that question. There’s already more time left. I’m sure I’ll be back, I don’t know when. It’s difficult to time it and say if it’s in two, three, if it’s for the year with Roger Schmidt [laughs]. But I’ve said it several times, and I think people get tired of hearing it: without a doubt, it’s a career and life goal to return to Benfica.”

Bernardo Silva has long spoken of his desire to finish his career back at his boyhood club. He rose through the ranks at Benfica before his move to AS Monaco. Since arriving at Manchester City, he has become one of the premier players in world football. His workrate, coupled with his immense technical and tactical ability, has made him one of Manchester City’s most important players during his spell with the club.

Bernardo’s value to Pep Guardiola’s side was on full display last weekend. His brace against Newcastle helped secure City’s place in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea. It was another virtuoso performance from the Portuguese international, and his Manchester City career is full of such displays.

Eventually, Manchester City will have to move on without Bernardo Silva. His desire to return to Benfica appears a wish that will be fulfilled by the star midfielder. Everyone associated with Manchester City will be hoping that day is another couple of seasons away before it becomes a reality.
