After an upset loss to Rutgers and an away loss to the Hokies of Virginia Tech, the struggles of Boston College’s Eagles have been demonstrated more than enough to fans. As if to add insult to injury, the 2022 live coaches hot seat rankings have recently added Eagle’s head coach Jeff Hafley to the list at rank 26 of 30. This is Hafley’s first appearance on the unofficial hot seat list. Although the graphic doesn’t cite any formal sources, it demonstrates national awareness of the Eagle’s struggles as an offense.

Hafley: “We need to score points, we have to find ways to score points…We have to move the ball and we have to score touchdowns.”

After last week’s loss to Virginia Tech, Jeff Hafley didn’t hold back in his post-game press conference, responding to Dan Rubin’s question with some brutally honest statements about the team’s performance.

“There’s a lot of little things. We’re not playing good enough, obviously. We’re not coaching good enough”

Even Twitter has jumped in on the action; it’s easy to jump on the bandwagon and blame the coach for poor performance.

Regardless of whether putting Hafley under fire for the Eagle’s lack of success over this season is justified or not, it’s hard not to acknowledge the offense’s lack of performance. With Jurkovec’s sub-par completion percentage, a lackluster offensive line, and a poor running game, the Eagle’s offense needs to turn it around before it’s too late.

Hafley’s Eagles and thousands of fans are hoping for better performance in next week’s home game against the Maine Black Bears. With ESPN predicting 96% chances for an Eagle win, the game seems like a lock-in, but if we can take anything from the first two weeks, it’s that the Eagles are far from predictable.
